Badger and Pangolin and more 30mins.

A drawing I did for my wonderful love, who is a pangolin that gets me out of my shell, and on to adventures.

Various 30min sketches on the following themes:
'Fallen Empire'

 Hero of the City
- Far under the great old city of London, the London underground’s demon hunter is called in when cross rail hits an old plague pit or ancient cultist vault. While they say your train is delayed by a signal failure, you should know the truth is this man and his dog are down there, fighting to clear the tunnels.

  Orbital Weapon
- Finally found high above the thick clouds of Caliban the autonomous drone recently awakened from the long forgotten war and wreaking havok on the colonists.

 Parking Lot

Oh and we released the Elite Dangerous combat demo alpha, pop on to youtube to see some lovely stuff!
Happy Holidays you guys!

Zangarmarsh as a Classic rail poster.

ZANGARMARSH in the style of a vintage rail poster.

Another in my series of World of Warcraft Locations in the style of vintage rail posters.

Zangarmarsh was always my favourite location in outland, and it was a nice break from painting the cities.

Bonus points for spotting the spore bat and fen strider.

Weaponry! and sketches!

Beam Laser -Concept for Frontier development’s Elite dangerous. Hard sci fi space game.

Heat sink launcher concept design for Elite dangerous.
These images also come with scrawling, line drawings and general rambling when I give them too modellers, those lucky folks!

Sketchbook page from recently, just playing with shapes, on the left I’m in the process of brewing up ideas I’ve got about how an lithe race in an mmo might look. I would quite like to have a subtle, but still badass race that weren’t overtly gender specific to produce an interesting contrast and fill a bit of a gap in the player base? Closest you can get in WoW is gnomes I guess? maybe… But it doesn’t matter because gnomes are for punting.

Anyway I want to avoid the overly nature inspired nymphs, they feel a bit too passive and find something that could work across classes.

More actual thoughts on this and less rambling typing brain stream coming soon. I need to really think about this… with some coffee.

Went to Heythrop Zoological Gardens last Saturday and drew some animals, hard to draw animals as they keep moving, but  a great challenge and a lot of fun. Alas no Paddy the badger, but apparently he’ll be out next year.

Tried doing how I imagine my shepard (mass effect) looks in the style of Matt Rhodes. Might have to render this one up.

Empress's castle... redux.

Tidied up this piece, added some actual sense of design to the architecture.

Description as before:
The Empress’ castle is built on an island in the middle of a waterfall, from the level of the waterfall it’s a series of canals going to a small tower, from below it’s a huge complex with small harbour at the bottom.

The whole complex is powered by giant waterwheels fixed to the side and powered by the waterfalls.

Sidewinder and studies.

Surface colour and materials call out concept of a sidewinder for Elite. The model underneath that you can see at the sides was modelled by John Kelly. I was asked to work over the grey render to add lighting and concept the different materials and how they could weather. So I’ve tried to include old oil stains, and a directional chipping of paint work to reveal the metal underneath, radiators working and possible light locations etc…

30 min studies

And another robo quickie.

Warrior lady, Rat folk and Process gifs.

Hello! ART from recently.

Loosely inspired by the shapes and cloaks used by 1800s fisherwomen from Scotland, but dipped in steampunk. I imagine she kicks arse.

Here is some new images from Frontier Development’s Elite dangerous, which I am a concept artist for.

I was handed the adder from the ground work done on the black image. But after looking at the original 1984 wireframe (top left), decided to take the ship in a slightly less angular, but more functional direction inline with the work we’d done on the other ships.

Work owned by Frontier Developments.

and here are some process gifs of these pieces, they were generally done over sucessive lunch, so they a a little bit messy.

Oxspindle sharpshooter

Oxspindle sharpshooter -

Hanging from lightweight blimps, these folks shoot the magical slag mites off the outside of the Ox. Often if they are near a populated area, or just as a general safety measure they use harpoon rounds to safely carry the corpses away.

Oxspindle decontaminator.

Another of the Oxspindle’s clean up crew.

These folks often have to travel into the sewers and tunnels that run under the oxspindle and provide a network of magical and air channels through the ox golem itself. They are hardy looking, well armoured. They often have to go in and clean up after the exterminators, which isn’t a particularly fun, or safe job.

Exterminator and Dancer.

This is one of the exterminators from the oxspindle, the issue with having a highly magical city, with a magical ox golem powering it is sometimes the magic leaks into the piles of slag and junk created by the industry, these have to be eliminated fairly quickly, preferably before they make it down too deep into the tunnel and sewer network inside the city.

Next time I’ll show you the men who have to shoot the golem ticks that live on and inside the oxspindle.

Messing about with costume and shape and colour and simplifying.

And bonus art work, a small part of a texture call out for the federation capital ship from elite : dangerous has been released to public perusal.
